Location & environment
L'Auberge is ideally situated right at the heart of the west Moroccan well-known village Taghazout. Thanks to its perfect location directly on the beach, you have a breathtaking ocean view from every terrace of the Auberge from where all surfs are easily checkable - from Panoramas Point all the way to Anchor Point. Taghazout's surf shops, restaurants, cafes and all that this authentic village has to offer is only a minute away. All in all, the West Coast of Morocco is a dream surfing destination. Morocco has amazing surf conditions all year round. During the summer months you find small to medium swells with surfing mostly taking place on the beaches and reefs on the more exposed north west coast. This is a great time for anyone looking for fun and uncrowded warm water surf. During the winter months you have the waves that made Morocco famous. The variety of surf in this area of Morocco is huge. There are not many places in the world like it. The region has something for everyone, from ideal beginner waves to challenging reef ledges. Due to the nature of the coastline there is almost always somewhere a sheltered and manageable wave, and those looking for something challenging wont be disappointed either.
Board & lodging
L'Auberge is Taghazout's oldest and best known surfer's hotel. Right on the main beach, its amazing location puts it in the heart of the village. The fun filled, lively Auberge is perfectly positioned to watch the fishing boats come in and soak up the laid back village atmosphere - staying at the Auberge is a unique Moroccan experience. Our kitsch Moroccan style chill-out lounge and restaurant is open all day serving delicious homemade, Moroccan and international food. Day or night it's the most popular place to hang out in the village. The Auberge has a collection of 9 twins/ doubles and 2 triple rooms on 2 floors. We've kitted out all of the rooms in a surfer friendly style, with comfy beds and funky decor. Each room looks out through blue wooden shutters onto the ocean. There are shared bathrooms comprising of two toilets and two showers on each floor. The rooftop terrace, sun-filled balconies and buzzing restaurant below come together to give the Auberge a real lively community feel. Kick back and enjoy the sunset from one of the beautiful terraces. Our restaurant is the best place to eat in town. Morning, noon and night you can take your pick from the Auberge menu; a mixture of hearty grub for a day in the surf or something lighter for a lazy afternoon in the sun. The atmosphere in the L'Auberge in the evening is fun and friendly and pulls together an eclectic mix of surfers and travellers from all over the world.
Surf class & surf material
The surf in front of the Auberge is easy to access and consistent from October to April. Hash Point is a fun wave, good for beginners and very convenient. Panorama's Point can be excellent on a big tide with a good swell and provides a good long board wave most of the time. Panorama's beach is a perfect year round spot for beginners. World renowned Anchor Point can be seen from every terrace of the Auberge and is within walking distance. With a team of fully qualified instructors, our aim is provide safe, fun, rewarding surf coaching for all abilities. From complete beginner to experienced surfer, our coaches will get you to the next level. Morocco's year round warm climate and huge variety of waves mean it's the perfect place for all levels to progress. From easy mellow beach breaks to rolling points, Morocco has it all. And with our local knowledge of the area, top quality coaches and equipment there is no better place to learn or improve your surfing. We offer a range of coaching courses; from two-hour sessions to weeklong courses for all abilities. All courses include board and wetsuit hire and professional coaching from tour surfteam. Our dynamic curriculum covers all the surfing essentials, from learning to stand and water safety, to perfecting your cut backs. See below our variety of class-levels.
The starter course - is designed as an introduction to surfing, this essential first session covers all you need to know to get going. The session starts on the beach and then moves to waist deep water working on board handling and safety, reading ocean conditions, paddling, catching broken waves, the jump up and stopping safely.
The intermediate course - is the next step up. At intermediate level the focus is on solidifying the basics. You'll learn about the paddle out and the techniques to make it easier, board control, quicker take offs, weight distribution and basic surfing etiquette. More advanced intermediate students will benefit from the session's focus on wave selection and catching and riding those elusive green waves.
The advanced sessions - are ideal for those who can surf but haven't surfed for a while and need a few pointers to get up to speed and make the most of their stay; or as an introduction to surfing point and reef breaks. Let our coaches take you out and show you around the line up, where to sit, which waves to go for and how to look out for those close out sets. Here we concentrate on duck diving, bottom turns, off the top's and cut backs. These sessions are really aimed at pushing your surfing forward.
Our 121 surfing - tuition really makes the most of your time in Morocco. Our private classes will be tailored to focus on any aspect of surfing you require and give you immediate results. An individual instructor dedicated to improving your surfing skills will give you the attention that will accelerate your progression.
